WW1 US Navy Deck Clock No. 2 1917 Chelsea
WW1 US Navy Deck Clock No. 2.
This clock was made by Chelsea of Boston. It dates from WW1. The serial number of the mechanism matches with Chelsea records showing that it left the factory in late 1917.
The dial is original 4 inch and when it left USN service it had the US Navy scratched out of the dial. It also has a Bureau of Navigation mark and registration number just above the key hole.
We have cleaned and polished the case. Replaced the glass with a new clock glass. We have had the mechanism sent to a clocksmith for repair as the mainspring was slipping - it has been repaired, cleaned and oiled. The clock is an 8 day mechanism and is keeping good time and runs for 8 days.
The regulating arm is not connected to the escapement and the escapement has to be manually adjusted but is currently regulated and keeping good time
We have mounted it onto a hand turned piece of American black walnut timber 18cm diameterr and added a key slot to the rear for wall hanging. Comes with a key.
A very rare WW1 dated US Navy deck clock.
