Admiral Prune
Admiral Prune was the aircraft flown by Squadron Commander: W/C Guy Penrose Gibson, V.C. DSO and Bar, DFC and Bar while he flew with 106 squadron.
The name Admiral Prune was a follow on from his earlier Handley Page Hampden Admiral Foo Bang. The Admiral came from Admiral Benbow in “Treasure Island” and Prune was taken from pilot officer Prune as used in RAF training films.
It is not believed that Admiral Prune nose art was on the plane that Guy Gibson flew in the dambuster raid. The special type 464 provisioning aircraft only started arriving two weeks before the raid, in one case the Lancaster only arrived the day before the raid.
Admiral Prune’s designation was ZNY W4118. There is a picture from March 1943 of Gibson standing in front of Admiral Prune 2, this was a different aircraft to the one we have represented.
Panel is priced at 175 GBP plus P&P.
The panel is 70 cm long x 50 cm high.
It is made from 5 separate pieces of aluminium sheet.
The panel represents the aircraft between formers B and G.
